We have two fabulous restaurants that are award winners in their own right. Vermilion no not the colour but the newest of the two places to dine and the North Bridge Brasserie. Relax and enjoy a splendid meal and a bottle of wine from out extensive wine lists.

Good stuff: Joel and the ladies on reception were the most impressive ive ever experienced. they made our stay personal and they seemed genuinely interested in our weekend.

Bad stuff: The pool room was strange as lighting was poor. The end light wasn't on and the ceiling looked like there was mesh which was not what i'd have expected looking at the rest of the hotel. It would have been a nice touch for the hotel to give Paul a birthday card as they knew it was for this. That would have been an even more personal touch, but I have to say i'm really nit picking there. Breakfast was very expensive so we ate out.

Overall: Loved it. Would love to come back.

Good stuff: Friendly & professional staff, hotel location, well appointed room

Bad stuff: None really - at 6.00am the water from the shower didnt get very hot but maybe I didnt run it long enough.

Overall: Very nice hotel, very pleasant staff, excellent pancakes!

Good stuff: convenient to rail and to city chambers - venue for evening celebration of Waitangi Day (NZ Society, Scotland). staff were pleasant friendly and efficient. Value for money was satisfactory. Room facilities were good.

Good stuff: Individual, stylish and comfortable

Bad stuff: It would have been nice to have been advised that the brasserie is very busy and to book ahead is essential. We were disappointed that we could not eat in the Brasserie on Saturday evening.

Overall: We would have liked to have known that there was an easier way to get from Waverly station to the hotel. We were not aware that there was a door just across the road from the station which necessitated us walking up a very steep flight of steps to get to the main entrance of the hotel. Having said that, the staff were delightful and very helpful and the public rooms were like the bedrooms, stylish and comfortable. We'd defintely stay again and reeccoment it to our friends.

Good stuff: Very good staff, especially the concierge, comfortable hotel in city centre and next to main rail station.Large comfortable bed, secondary glazing keeps room quiet. Large rooms and good facilities.

Bad stuff: The cost of breakfast in particular is excessive for the food served. On second morning we found it easier and cheaper to go 100 metres to the 'Filling Station' for a first class breakfast at 1/3rd of the price. The evening meal, although good quality was also expensive. Scotsman, if you want to keep return customers you need to give value for money on your food.

Overall: We had booked into a different hotel in Edinburgh but changed when we found it under new ownership. The Scotsman had available rooms, although it was festival week and the military tattoo. At £200 per room per night it is not at the cheap end of the market but adding £17.50 for a below par breakfast is a bit over the top. Good hotel that possibly desreves 5 stars for service and comfort but has lessons to learn on value for money.

Bad stuff: The reception and general hotel area was very underwhelming and dissapointing

Overall: We tried to check in at 4pm but were told our room wasn't ready yet, the reception was very underwhelming, nothing like I had imagined from the photos on the Website. I didn't appreciate having to have dinner in the same area as the Bar (bottom floor of the North Bar).

Good stuff: The room was outstanding. The bathroom was an imediate wow factor, totally stunning.

Overall: The Scotsman Hotel was everything and more that we expected. The staff were polite and very helpful. The facilities were great, the swimming pool, gym and 'Cowshed' parlour were clean well presented and a great area for relaxing. The only downside was the poor breakfast and the cost of it, but this didnot dampen our stay at all. I would fully recommend this hotel to any of my friends or family.

Bad stuff: You need to produce a little leaflet telling people about the building and its features.

Overall: I will probably not stay there again as it was very expensive for a hotel which has very few facilities other than what you might expect. There was also an overnight charge for parking the car which was not detailed on the website (although I may have missed it). The parking charge in addition to having to pay for breakfast made the stay much more expensive than anticipated.

Bad stuff: I thought the breakfast was a little over priced.

Overall: I have been traveling for 2 months for school and this is the best place my husband and I stayed at. The rooms and facilities were fantastic and the staff was great too.
