This lovely Victorian house has an elegant charm that will make you feel right at home. We have kept as much of the house intact as is possible so you can really enjoy the atmosphere.
Our rooms are very cheap in relation to what you get for your money. Being in Scotland you can expect good value, even in the capital city. Located in the Merchiston district, good public transport to the centre of Edinburgh is available. So that means peace and quiet with all the action being only 20 minutes away by bus.
At the Ettrick we have tried to keep our hotel a part of the community in the city. Our bar does get a few friendly local people in so you can feel a part of life here when you stay with us. Staff will serve you until the late hours each night.
If you fancy stopping for a relaxing meal we can offer you some room outside to eat during the warmer summer months, if you so desire. The menu at the Bistro is available all day for your pleasure. Breakfast here is cooked to your order every day.

Bad stuff: The service of the staff was somewhat understated! Poor attention to detail... Overall: While we were there, we ran out of... Toilet paper (the half roll we had on arrival had been dropped in something) Tea bags (they weren't replaced - the biscuits were though!) Shower Gel When we requested some from the staff, at no point did anyone apologise or seem to care. Breakfast one morning - we had to wait 20 minutes to even be acknowledged and then a further wait for food. All in all the staff seemed to be rather underwhelmed... At times it felt like we were being an inconvenience to them. The hotel was also noisy, but what do you expect when booking 2 weeks before Christmas! Having said all that, we had a lovely stay in Edinburgh and would definitely return. |
