Good stuff: Hotel situation is ideal for shopping etc
Bad stuff: Room extremely warm , even with radiator turned down to frost setting. Castle view, if you craned your neck !
Overall: Bar was not adequately manned, eg Saturday lunchtime, over 30 people in bar with one barperson !. Bar receipts being binned & not being passed onto the customer. Fire doors consistantly left open by cleaning staff. I closed the firedoors outside my room 3 times on Saturday & twice on Sunday. They are being wedged open by the cleaning staff. Restuarant serving staff very attentive although quality of meal differed greatly between Friday & Saturday nights, also a bit sneaky adding on 10% service charge. Why not just put it directly on the menu prices rather than a stealth tax.

Good stuff: The room facilities were good. The including the use of a trouser press and coffee/tea making facilities - which are not always included in more expensive hotels nowadays.
Bad stuff: I am a non-smoker and it was apparent the room I stayed in (270)had previously been used by a smoker. The size of the room I had was small and I had a lousy view at the back of the hotel. I could not have justified to my company the additional £20.00 to secure a room at the front of the hotel.
Overall: This hotel was marginally cheaper than others I use in Edinburgh. My particular favourite being the Carlton. For a minimal amount of money, becoming a Leisure group member enables me to upgrade my room when I stay. The rooms are always very comfortable and of a good size with excellent facilities. If the price differential was a little greater, then I would consider using your hotel again.

Good stuff: Excellent location, very well appointed.
Bad stuff: Bedrooms and bathrooms are due a refurb
Overall: Overall an excellent stay, the hotel is generally in good order and the service adequate to good. However it is the location of the hotel that really makes the difference; right in the middle of the main shopping street and a short walk to the old town and the castle. Most everywhere you would want to go in Edinburgh is a short walk away. Very good value for money.

Good stuff: Right on the main street, close to all major transportation stops.
Bad stuff: The rooms are old and needs major fix up.
Overall: This is the best price for any hotel in downtown Edinburgh. Though the value compared to those hotel in the USA is low. Most visitors from the USA would expect alot more from any hotel in US for the same money.

Bad stuff: No air conditioning, very noisy room looked onto airconditioning fans on roof
Overall: Windows in room were very poor. Wouldn't close correctly and were only single glazed. There was a lot of noise from outside (fans, kitchens). Had fan in room but no air con. Made room very warm after while and couldn't have fan on as was too noisy.
