Our superb establishment is, without doubt, the place to stay when you visit this wonderful city. Located in the very heart of the "Old Town" we offer professional and attentive service, supremely comfortable accommodation and a convenient location for exploring the city whether you are here on business or for pleasure.
Although the area is now called the Old Town, our wonderful Georgian hotel was originally the focal point of the New Town when it was built in the late 1800s. Designed as the show piece of the area by architect Robert Adams the building has a wonderfully elegant facade, with this elegance and style being continued throughout the building.
With a perfect location in the heart of a city that has a long and varied history everything that you could want, whether your visit here is for business or pleasure, is within easy travelling distance. In 2000 our splendid establishment underwent a complete refurbishment and modernisation, with great care being taken to retain the original charm and character of this magnificent building, twelve million pounds were spent improving the facilities we offer our guests, making certain that everything you could want during your stay is right here. We now have 197 wonderfully comfortable and well equipped rooms that have everything that you would expect of a superior establishment such as ours. We have a stylish restaurant where you can dine on the finest cuisine. Freshly prepared by our talented chef and served in elegant surroundings. After a superb meal you can relax and unwind in our cosy lounge, where you can enjoy a drink from the bar in perfect comfort.
Stylish accommodation in a prime location, everything you need for a wonderful holiday or business trip.

Overall: The room service menu was excellent and the food was one of the best we have had from room service. We were suprised there were no fried or poached eggs on the room service breakfast menu. The staff were very friendly and accomodating. The only critisism was we never received a wake-up call we had placed.

Bad stuff: buffet breakfast !!

Good stuff: I liked the location, the comfort, the gym and pool.
Bad stuff: The lift to the upper floors took an incredibly long time to arrive, and was so frustrating, that we usually walked up and down the four floors.
Breakfast in the room service could definitely be vastly improved upon - it was certainly not up to any standard of good hotel at all, apart from the linen and china.
The TVs should be put on a higher stand as you can't see when you lie in bed as it is so low!
Overall: The hotel was generally very comfortable, though our room was small, even compared to our children's, which was much more spacious. Most staff were very polite, apart from our first check-in person, who was rather officious and un-welcoming.
We loved the pool and gym, but found the breakfast room service very over-priced and poor quality food.
We loved the area and sense of comfort, but found it hard for example, to have enough drinking water in our room (the tap water smelled undrinkable). One evening we bought two bottles of water and it cost £8, which seemed an outrageous amount for overnight drinking water.
Overall, it was a good experience, though the hotel had quite a corporate, chain-hotel feel to it, while I was expecting more of a personal style, having read about converted town houses on the web-site.

Good stuff: very good location and charming old building -
Bad stuff: the toilet didn't flush, the hair drying (meant to be attached to the wall) was hidden in a desk drawer, the pillows smelled of cigarette smoke, the hallways were in need of paint/repair - as for the restaurant, the staff was ineffecient, sloppy looking, eating their own meals while neglecting to serve the guests. What about a tablecloth for dinner?
Overall: I think you can see from the above comments that their is room for improvement in many areas. I paid 190 pounds per night and for that amount of money, I expect more. also someone tried to fedex me a script and was told that we had cancelled our reservation. We were there for 5 nights.

Good stuff: The room was large, well-equipped, comfortable and quiet. It was actually better than what I had expected from what I had seen on the Internet.
Overall: My husband and I travel a lot. We have stayed in hotels all across the US and Europe. As an avid runner I found the gym to be very well-equipped (especially for Europe) and the nearby park safe, clean and nice to run in. The hotel is also very well located. The staff is friendly and helpful. It's a great find. We would definitely stay at the Roxburghe again and recommend it to our friends.

Bad stuff: Holes in walls, some parts of wallpaper ripped, the fact that I was slipped a bill under my door.

Good stuff: Availabily, convenience and urgent necessity of finding rooms. Immediacy to point of family congregation.
Bad stuff: Accept need for reduced visual publicity, but despite address in hand, difficult to find nocturnally.
Overall: There was a need for urgent booking. I did find that different online agencies did portray an alternative picture to what I found. Our stay was compulsorily brief, but I found that the features that I had viewed with trepidation - i.e, availability of breakfast and on street parking, were adequately answered. I also felt that our late arrival, despite suggesting this before departure from South Wales, could have led to a modicum of awkwardness. In fact, I was extremely pleased with our welcome and disposal!

Rating out of 5: 5.0 Unique ID(1543933) Guests Name: Anonymous Guest was traveling as: Mature couple
Good stuff: The close proximity to the main shopping and attractions of Edinburgh
Bad stuff: We have no adverse comments.
Overall: We have little to add to the classifications we have already given and found the Roxburghe in South Charlette Street to be ideally suited for our purpose. For anyone seeking good value accommodation toward the West End of Princes Street with good access to say the Usher Hall or Traverse Theatre it is extremely good. We would certainly use this hotel again at this price in the future.

Rating out of 5: 3.71 Unique ID(1687242) Guests Name: Anonymous Guest was traveling as: Young couple
Good stuff: The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, and the leisure facilities were excellent.
Bad stuff: Wallpaper was coming off walls in bedroom and hot tap in the bathroom was loose.
Overall: The hotel is in an excellent location, staff were very friendly and helpful, but I think that there are parts of the hotel especially the bedrooms which are in need of refurbishment. I felt that the hotel may have been slightly over rated because, for the first three nights of our stay in Edinburgh we stayed in a 3 star hotel which had nicer decor and was a lot cleaner than the room we had in the roxburgh hotel.

Rating out of 5: 2.43 Unique ID(1752512) Guests Name: Debra Guest was traveling as: Group of adult friends
Good stuff: leaving it so i could get some sleep
Bad stuff: nice hotel but no one thought about your paying guests with functions on every night of the weekend till 1am. i was on the third floor and still could not sleep because of the noise. As a result i would never stay in this hotel again.
Overall: I would have like to have been told prior to booking about possible disturbances. I was not the only guest to have made a complaint to reception. when we went down to breakfast some of the food was cold and there wasn't enough waiting staff. Then when i went to check out i was stood in the queue and two people came down, got in the queue infront of me and were seen first, when my friend said something about it i was told by a woman behind the desk that the queue was from the other direction when she had clearly seen me and the three other guest that had been in front of me.
